Job Shadow Report
For my first job shadow I went to Blackwell, Oklahoma, to job shadow Tobi Wood, the third grade teacher at their elementary school. At this job shadow I watched the kids prepare for state testing, and when any of the kids needed help I tried to step in and help them. I personally don’t remember receiving any suggestions or information to help me in this career, but she told me it can be stressful at times. In this job shadow I learned how tough and stressful it can be for someone to teach kids at a young age. I think this could be a career I could go into.
For my second job shadow I went to Wellington, Kansas, to job shadow Marcie Bristor at 9-1-1. This job shadow was really fun, but I personally don’t think I could ever do this for my career. Here I watched the dispatchers take a few calls, and I even did a pretend call with one of the dispatchers. During this time I learned how much trouble they go through and how much dispatchers have to actually know. The only tip she really gave me was that to do well in this career, you must always keep your cool because people tend to freak out during these calls. The reason I did this job shadow and it does not match my report is because during my time in Blackwell I took a tour of all three of their schools with their school resource officer and it made me become more interested in that field.

Career Report
For the past couple of years I have considered going into education and becoming a history teacher. Coaching would also be something I would like to do. A few of my greatest role models have been my teachers or coaches. Athletics have always been a big part of my life, so I would like to carry on as a coach. Using career cruising, I have taken a matchmaker to find what career best fits me. Coach was at the top of my list and teacher was in the ranks as well.
After researching to become a history teacher, I found you must have at least a 4 year bachelor's degree in education and you must also be licensed by the state in which you wish to teach in. Also if you are going into middle or secondary school, you must major in the subject you wish to teach such as mathematics, history, biology. After looking at a couple of colleges in Kansas, Wichita State University costs about $24,000 annually. Although that is not the cheapest, I plan to apply for as many scholarships and grants as possible.
Teachers make an average of approximately $55,000 annually, although I know starting out I would not make that much. In Kansas the average teacher makes about $44,000 per year. Staying in Kansas would be great, but in bigger cities teachers earn much more although the living expenses would cost more in a bigger city. For example, Los Angeles teachers on average make about $64,000 per year.

Home Sweet Home
I am going to tell you about a big change that happened in my life that would flip everything upside down, but for the better. In the beginning this seemed to be one of the worst changes I would ever have to deal with, but in reality this made me a better person in general and made me realize how good everything I have today is.
It all started when I was around the age of 4 or 5; my parents did not have the strongest relationship and made very poor choices throughout my childhood. My dad and I had always been closer than my mom and I were. He was my best friend, and I always did whatever I could to be around him and do what he was doing; that’s why I began to play football.
Every Sunday during football season for as long as I can remember, we would always watch NFL games. During this time we lived in Seminole, Oklahoma. I made so many friends during the time being down there; I began playing tackle football in the third grade. We were very good, and everyone on the team was like family to me. Three years in a row we won the championship, and one or two of the seasons we went undefeated. Although everything probably doesn’t seem that bad, everything changed in 2012 in the middle of February. My parents would fight a lot, so much that it just became normal. Everything seemed so good that month, but a week after my birthday my parents finally split up. My dad and I moved back to my hometown Wellington, Kansas. I was so happy for my dad because I truly thought he would come back to Kansas and clean up his life. Once we got there, it hurt because I didn’t have my brothers with me anymore; there were times I wouldn’t see my dad for a couple of days. I was the new kid in school, although I was staying with my cousins and aunt until my dad found a job and found us a new house. While finishing my fifth grade year, everything seemed to be getting back on track. Life had not felt that good in a long time, but something changed in the summer of 2012. My dad sat me down to talk with me about what would possibly happen in the future. He told me that I was going to move in with my grandparents in Caldwell, Kansas, until he found permanent living arrangements for us. I didn’t think much of it because almost every summer since I was about six years old I spent a good amount of time there anyway. Going to the pool everyday and hanging out with all of my friends from Caldwell was fun, but I was ready to be back with my dad since I hadn’t talked to him for most of the summer other than a couple of phone calls here and there. About a month before school was to start, he called me and told me that I would be going to school in Caldwell, but I didn’t like the idea of it even though I already had plenty of friends and family here.
The final chapter of my life so far started in sixth grade; it started a lot better than I thought it would be at first. School was really fun. I also began to do multiple sports in middle school. The worst part about the beginning of this chapter was always waiting on Dad to come to my grandparents to get me and tell me that we would finally be a family again. As great as that sounded in my head, it never happened, and I am now very grateful that it didn’t. Somewhere between seventh and eighth grade years I began to build a better relationship with the high school football coach, Sean Blosser. At first I was known as the punk kid with an awful attitude, but he believed in me more than anyone had ever done. He could always tell when I was having a bad day; he would sit me down and try to talk to me about it, but I would never tell him what was going on because of trust issues. I wouldn’t let anyone in, and that was a huge problem at first, but once high school started I began to start figuring things out. I started to realize I wasn’t my grandparents problem even though they would do anything for me. I decided to move in with my uncle on my mom’s side. This was big for me since I was no longer in charge of myself I couldn’t run around and do whatever I wanted anymore. My attitude was still very poor, but it began to change between my three main coaches, Sawyer, Blosser, and Marlin. They always corrected me, and I hated it, but in the end I can’t thank them enough. Those three truly believed in me, and I just needed to listen and realize that what they were saying would make me a better man. Structure and discipline was much needed for me. Once I began to let others in and started to listen to them, I figured out that everything that happened was actually the best thing that could’ve happened. After my first year of high school, I began to change even more. I started listening and building some of the best relationships that I still have today. Although some things at first seem like the worst thing possible, they can turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to you. Now in my final year of high school, I truly think I am a better person than I would’ve been living the life I was before.
